okae. Legend Of Yun Xi èžæ±äŒ is a Chinese costume drama that was released quite some time back in 2018. I would have missed it if not for the news about The Blooms At Ruyi Pavilion which will star the same male and female leads. I know many fans are excitedly looking forward to their new drama and this got me interested to see what the hype is all about. Whether the interest has been worthwhile is reflected in my Legend of Yun Xi review below. To cut a long story short, I would say that I wouldnât mind watching them being cast together again. But that doesnât mean Legend Of Yun Xi is perfect either. Unfortunately, I still do have my complaints! My rating 7/10Episodes 48Type Romance, CostumeAired June 2018Images Credit IJQ TV, iQiyiThe Main Cast Of Legend Of Yun XiJu Jing Yi as Han Yun XiYun Xi is the unloved daughter of an imperial physician. What is his personal agenda?Legend Of Yun Xi Ending Spoilers Alert! After sitting through 48 episodes of Legend Of Yun Xi, you will come to an ending that is open to your own interpretation. I see it as neither particularly happy or sad because some things are left unexplained. The storyline is clear that Yun Xi has to sacrifice herself to cure Fei Yeâs Gu Poison. What is needed is the blood from her heart. So, she begged Qi Shao to help her with the cure before she killed herself. The viewers are led to believe that she died despite her magical bangle glowing when she took her last breath. There is also a scene that shows Qi Shao trying to call out to her in his semi-conscious state when a woman appears to take away the magical bangle in his possession after Yun Xiâs the same time, viewers are shown how Fei Ye and Qi Shao miss and mourn Yun Xi. In the last scene, the timeline should be more than a year after Yun Xiâs death. Fei Ye is recollecting his time with Yun Xi. Suddenly, he sees her in the garden and goes over to hug her⊠and the drama ends! If Yun Xi is supposed to live, we are not told exactly how she stayed alive and where she had been. Since Fei Ye is also shown thinking about Yun Xi in the last scene, it could also be interpreted as him dreaming or hallucinating since his feelings for her is so strong. Hence, the ending is open-ended in that way. You can check out my Legend Of Yun Xi episode summary for more Fei Ye Is After The Poison MasterFei Ye is actually a prince of the fallen state of Qin Xi. With the defeat, his whole family was caught and imprisoned. Emperor Tian Hui Di has a hand in the poison zombie project. All his family members were killed during the experiment except for Tang Li who was smuggled out of prison the Gu Poison inside his body, Fei Ye will turn into a zombie when the poison acts up especially when he is in a fit of rage. His wife left him while pregnant with Yun Xi because of her objection to his involvement in the poison zombie project. Tian Xin then married Han Cong An who fell in love with her. Hence, she was thrown into jail to help out with the poison zombie project and met up again with the Poison decided to escape. Refusing to surrender, he commits suicide by dropping himself off the cliff. Qi Shao also helps Fei Yeâs army to kill the poison zombies. He does it for Yun Xi as it was her wish to see Fei Yeâs triumph. Princess Qing Ge escapes with Princess Chang Ping after Emperor Tian Hui Diâs defeat. She regrets betraying him as she has gradually developed feelings for him and vice-versa. Although the Emperor found out that she had been poisoning him, he didnât kill but merely imprisoned the war, Fei Ye refuses to be the Emperor as he wants to mourn Yun Xi. He is a disciple of the Poison of Northern Li â He dies of sickness. Qi Shao hates his father for the poor treatment accorded to him and his mother who was a palace Of Yun Xi Review â Kind Of PredictableThe way the story is told in Legend Of Yun Xi is that the charactersâ background is revealed bit by bit. In the early parts of the drama, we see Fei Ye as a prince of Tian Ning before his back story is peeled off layer by layer as the drama progresses. So, as you watch episode after episode, you can kind of guess what is going to happen next. It is not hard to figure out who Fei Ye is or who is Yun Xiâs real father. It is not the type of drama that is suspenseful in that Romance Is LackingI know many people look forward to watch Legend Of Yun Xi for the romance. But this is not a drama that is particularly heavy on the romance side of things either. Yes, the 2 main characters fall in love but for the most part of the drama, they are either cold towards each other or apart. Of course, there is a good reason for it but if you are hoping for a lot of lovey-dovey scenes like those in The Love By Hypnotic, you will be in for a disappointment. I think Yun Xi spends just as much time, if not more, with Qi Shao as with Fei Ye. Personally, I feel they should have done more to develop the relationship between Yun Xi and Fei Ye so that viewers will be more emotionally invested in their love chemistry between Zhang Zhe Han and Ju Jing Yi is palpable which is partly why I suppose viewers are giving Legend Of Yun Xi fairly positive reviews. I have no complaints there but Zhang Zhe Hanâs acting could have been better. I know it is not easy to act as a stern and distant royalty and military commander but I think Allen Ren did it quite well in Under The Power. Fei Yeâs character lacks depth in Zhang Zhe Hanâs portrayal that it looks a little too superficial. I think I like him better in the modern drama, Everyone Wants To Meet You. At least, he shows more emotions there with better It For Yalkun Merxat And The PlotIf there is one good reason to watch Legend Of Yun Xi, it would be Qi Shaoâs character. He can appear cold and evil with his foes but he can also be warm and endearing with Yun Xi. He speaks with his eyes and smiles. In fact, I like his character and Yalkun Merxatâs portrayal better than Fei Ye and Zhang Zhe Hanâs other reason that got me to continue watching is how Fei Ye will defeat Tian Ningâs Emperor and whether he will be cured. Although most aspects of the drama are predictable, the storyline is still pretty interesting with the poison zombie angle being an important element that glues everything together. You can guess that there will be a battle between Fei Ye and Emperor Tian Hui Di in the end. You can also predict that Yun Xi would want to save Fei Ye. But as the story builds up, the motivation is there to plough on to see how the ending will be presented to the VerdictIâm not particularly fond of open endings. That is why for this Legend Of Yun Xi review, I have only given it a 7/10 rating. I donât mind a sad ending if it fits the story because a forced happy ending would just make it unsatisfying as the drama closes. It also doesnât have a compelling a story as Love And Destiny or The Untamed but it is still a watchable production given its interesting you like palace political machinations and power struggles, then Legend Of Yun Xi is for you. The poison zombie story also makes it a little different from the standard fare. The romance is there and is an important component to the whole plot but it is not the most attractive part of the drama for me. As I have mentioned, if the screenwriters had invested more effort into the romance, Legend Of Yun Xi could have turned out better. Viewers would then feel moved with Yun Xiâs sacrifice which is the climax of the story. But as it is, it is still worthwhile to give this drama a go. Just donât put too high hopes on the romance part and a highly satisfactory ending if that is what you are looking for.
ï»żThis C-drama known as âThe legend of Yunxiâ and which has a novel and manhwa series too, was the first historical drama I watched. I have watched slice-of-life dramas before but nothing like a fantasy historical mix. And I have to admit I definitely liked this one. How did I stumble upon it? Well thanks to YouTube, it was recommending me a clip from the drama and I saved it to watch later. I happened to see the watch-later list of mine waiting for me. And well the rest was an amazing watching experience. Chinese dramas for one, have a really slow pace, they dig into the world and character building and reach climax a bit slowly. Sometimes itâs unnecessary to drag the story and sometimes the story needs more elements. I actually wanted there to be more episodes of this drama or maybe a season 2 would have sufficed but oh well , weâll see. This drama aired in 2018, and shows a traditional setting, old era when people were always at war. The setting was really beautiful. The imagery was done well. The CGI did kinda make me cringe at first but it wasnât overdone so I was okay with it. The flow was especially well. And the actors and actresses should be applauded for their outstanding performance in portraying those characters. The story revolves around the fate of two people and an imperial palace . This palace is nothing ordinary with people always plotting, always after the throne, always backstabbing. But what brought the two people together is rather interesting. Be warned there are spoilers ahead. Tianing won after overthrowing another empire. The emperor dies later on leaving his consorts and sons the emperor Tian wei, and long Feiye. Well Feiye actually dies but no one knows and a man from the rival empire takes the role. It becomes quite interesting as Tian wei is actually afraid of Feiyeâs power but for this very reason Tian weiâs mother marries Feiye to Han Yunxi, a doctor and a poison expert. Now there are a lot of divisions in the palace itself. I wonât spoil that but too many mysteries and too many plots. I personally felt long tianmoemperorâs son was kind of weak, but his brother was no good either. In the end tianmo did actually do great I think. Better than Tianqing at least. Feiye was never after the throne . I loved his character. The most cold, and calculating prince disguised as someone else whose only weakness was the poison expert Yunxi. His acting was brilliant. The actor did a brilliant job. Feiye and yunxiâs moments were cute and lovely. I think people would dislike how cold stone faced he is in the start , or how he distances himself from Yunxi and others to protect them, but you have to understand his point of view. I didnât at all hate his character because he needed to do that. Itâs exactly what made it all so sad. The second leadâs acting was quite good too and who canât say He isnât handsome , hell even Feiyeâs assistant was handsome and Feiyeâs brother too. I would like to take a moment to explain the ending since it confused many people. I think episode 48 should have been final . But episode 49 explained it further and still was episode 48. stay warned of the spoilers No Yunxi doesnât die. Well she doesnât in the novel as far as I know. And no yunxiâs bracelet couldnât have saved her mother because she didnât have the bracelet when she fell down the cliff while yunxi had it when she stabbed herself. I guess the episode showed how the bracelet extracted its life force and put it in Yunxi. As for who saved Gu Qishao, I think it was Yuze based on the scene. So in the end she is actually there with prince Qin in the field while Gu Qishao doesnât really know. But alas writers cut a few parts of this same episode and made it look like an alternate ending where Yunxi dies. Itâs up to you viewers to choose the ending you want. Epsidode 49 or 50tho 48 is the last rest are extra. Now that this is explained I can move onto gush on how cute Tang Li and Ninjiang were. I absolutely loved Consort Yi and how she starts to treat Yunxi as her own daughter. Hu Bin actually doesnât look his age haha. That Beili Minxiang was annoying but alas that was because the actress portrayed it good enough to be hated. Xi feng was cute with Zhuyu. Doctor Han was also great as soon as you learn his story you wonât hate him. As for poison master , wellâŠidk I have mixed feelings. But the emperorâs advisor was loathesome lol. Empress Dowager was also the cruelest , she basically caused the havoc in the harem. Consort Qing was clever as well , but in the end she develops feelings for the Emperor. I was actually expecting a huge fight in the end but I guess this much did do well. Because it was light hearted and I absolutely loved the characters. It actually gave me blues after I ended it. I enjoyed each episode slowly because I knew Iâd not want the series to end. Watch Legend of Yunxi Read Novel Poison genius consort
Han Yun Xi Ju Jing Yi enters an arranged marriage with the kingâs brother Long Fei Ye Zhang Zhe Han. Although they start out as distant strangers, they grow to respect and love one another as Han Yun Xi uses her skills as a poison expert to help her husband navigate the machinations of the court. This manor is mine. And you are, of Yun Xi Let it be said that I adore the enemies/strangers to lovers tropes. I do. When itâs well done. But you see this quote up there? Yeah? Yeah. A Good Start There was a lot of potential in Legend of Yun Xi. The arranged marriage clichĂ© can be exceedingly charming when done well, and the lighthearted atmosphere of the show could have worked really well. Alas, the script persisted in going for the bad rather than the good, and by the time I got to midpoint of Legend of Yun Xi, I was cringing more often than not. Let me explain. While the first few episodes started out rather well with a determined heroine who, instead of going to her arranged marriage like a lamb to slaughter, has her own agenda and a male protagonist the very definition of stoic badass, Legend of Yun Xi quickly ended up resorting to eternal clichĂ©s and abusive relationships. How? Simple. Down We Go Letâs start with the main romance. While the male lead does show on occasion that he cares for his wife, the numerous occurrences of him just expecting her to serve him like some glorified slave, saying that she belongs to him, locking her up in her rooms, and so on just made me cringe so hard it was horrifying. His noble idiot moment, which weâre supposed to believe happens because he wants to protect her, is rendered moot by the fact that she has literally nowhere to go, which heâs aware of. Which brings me to the second unhealthy aspect of this supposed âromanceâ Han Yun Xiâs life revolves around Long Fei Ye. Every single thing she does is related to him in some way or other. When heâs not there, sheâs thinking of him. When theyâre fighting, sheâs staring longingly at the door, waiting. When sheâs hanging out with her âfriendsâ, sheâs only ever doing it so she can get something for him. Sheâs got nothing and nobody thatâs her own, and nowhere to go should he one day get tired of her. Sheâs completely dependent on his good will. Ever Heard About Communication? Also, I just kept having the feeling that he whistled her to heel whenever he needed her medical skills, then sent her back to her courtyard like some sort of glorified dog. Basically, he was using her. And whenever they had an argument, she was always the one to apologize, even if the only reason sheâd made a mistake was because he kept not telling her things. So many times things could have worked out so much better if heâd only just talked to her instead of just retreating into his palace of machismo to plan with his men. Romance Who? Donât Know Her. You know what else bothered me? Itâs that they never fought for each other. Every time he distanced himself from her, she demurely stepped back, and every time she had an issue with him, he turned himself into a wall of ice until the storm was gone. They never talked their issues out, only allowed them to pass and then carried on as if nothing had happened. In the end, I could never believe in that love because they just⊠never held on to each other. Although itâs true that Yun Xiâs entire life quickly started to revolve around Long Fei Ye, which⊠not healthy. As for the secondary relationship. Oh wow. Iâve rarely seen anything so blatantly abusive. The girl has been bullying the guy ever since they were children. So of course, he doesnât want to marry her. Cue her stalking him 24/7, going so far as to drugging him and tying him to his bed so she can sleep with him not in the sex sense but still and, wait for it⊠tricking him into marrying her. Excuse me while I go combust somewhere. And the worst part of it all is that literally everybody around them thinks itâs normal. Not one of those people steps in, instead laughing at this poor man for being âbossed aroundâ by a girl. A Word to Young People Everywhere Of course, he falls for her anyway. Let it be known to young men everywhere that if a girl stalks and hits and drugs you, sheâs definitely the one for you. Now that I think about it, also let it be known to young women everywhere that if a man tells you you belong to him, calls you only when he needs you to do something for him, and never apologizes, then heâs the one for you, too. Deep breaths. Boring Plot-wise, well. I fast-forwarded on all of the politics, the royal harem inner wars, and prince battlesâthough I did take the time to feel sorry for the crown prince. That wasnât why I was there. There were one part that I definitely would have loved to see more of, namely the white-haired supersoldiers there was one scene there that was really powerful at the beginning of the show, but the effect of which Legend of Yun Xi tragically failed to ever reproduce over the course of the next 45 episodes. It was certainly an interesting concept, but poorly developed. It was all just so⊠predictable. Finally, the acting was nothing to fawn over. While Zhang Zhe Han is certainly very handsome, his expression range seems limited to widening his eyes in a threatening way. In fact, his face is so stiff that it feels unnatural to see him smile when it does happen, which isnât very often, let me tell you. Ju Jing Yi was fine, but her part wasnât a very emotional one, and her character wasnât that deep, so there wasnât that much for her to demonstrate either. In fact, I think Yalkun Merxat was the one who stood out the most, probably because his boyish excitement at seeing his crush and overall playful demeanor was infinitely more endearing and sympathy-inducing than Zhang Zhe Hanâs expressionlessness. I mean, I like tall, dark and broody as much as anyone else but thereâs such a thing as too much, you know. Why the Love Triangle, Why? Speaking of Yalkun Merxat, I made myself silently suffer through 48 episodes of love triangle but.. I donât get why heâs in love with her? In fact, I donât get why Long Fei Ye is in love with her either. I mean, sheâs bright and cheerful and puts up with a lot of crap but⊠she keeps being led around by the nose by literally everyone and their mother, remains horribly submissive to her ungrateful husband, falls into traps left and right, has to be rescued all the time⊠Even her medical skills arenât her own, but came from a magical bracelet that has literally no use but to impart her with instant knowledge. Because studying is for losers, obviously. In the end, the production quality might have made up for some of this, but it really didnât, because it was terrible. I like to think Iâm nice enough as an audience, and I donât have the sharpest eye when it comes to CGI so Iâm pretty tolerant, but even I could tell right from episode 1 that the special effects were just bad. It felt like watching those old computer games from the 90s where stuff would go through walls and characters would have the weirdest movements. This was the exact same thing. The sound mixing was absolutely horrible as well. There were two episodes in the first ten where I could hardly hear the awkward and repetitive dialogue since the music was so loud, and it just feels like there wasnât a single moment of silence after that. The music was mostly dissonant, never matching the scenes, which just killed the atmosphere for pretty much the entire show. All in All⊠âŠYou might have noticed, but Legend of Yun Xi made me a teeny tiny bit angry. I was going to give it two stars because it still had a weird charm and a few cute scenes that helped me suffer through its entirety, but Iâll take one off because it was just so painful to force myself through the second half. Dropped 27/48 Gemu no Neko3 people found this review helpful Story Acting/Cast Music Rewatch Value No real suspense - can't take the characters seriously First of all, I dropped it after dragging myself through the drama since about episode has become so I likedYunxi is a lively, vibrant and forgiving character. The actress carried the show for me and made me watch on. In the beginning I didn't like her for several reasons, but either I've gotten used to it or she outgrew those reasons a male lead finally has some expressions after that many episodes. He is costumes are nice, they did a fine job with interior decorations. The rooms were crafted well. I like the way they started to weave in Dr. Gu's character, they managed to be a little more subtle about it. What I dislikedThe sound effects/ musicOmg. Who commited that crime? I'm not talking about the Intro and Outro songs, I skipped was just... NOISE. HUGE noise. When they wanted to add suspension or make a point, it seems somone thought it a good idea to let the orchestra hit their instruments all at the same time and then throw them in the trash. Repeatedly. It really diverted the attention from the drama to the off-music, sometimes to the point where you lost track of what was happening. The worst effect/music choice I've come across so far in a give it a 5, because I think the other music was at least decent. But described sound/music was the beginning there was some plot, but it gradually became less and lost traction. Now even if new plot elements seem to plop up, I feel bored about them and don't bother investing comedic relief didn't work for me. Yunxi didn't have enough funny scenes to make up for it and I started to strongly dislike Tang Li's character, who seems to was supposed to be a comedic kept it flat. The plot doesn't really happen, it's quite often only talked about and without finesse - no suspense, compared to other It can't find itself solid ground. The reasons to develop a good romance between the leads are there, and yes, there are kiss scenes included up to episode 27 and I suppose "some right scenes". But the feelings don't carry at all. The second male lead? Nope. Unfortunately they gave him too much boring screen time in scences that lead to nothing is probably my biggest misfit with this drama I can't seem to invest emotions in any of the characters but Yunxi. And I really had to warm up to her first, too since I felt she had a forced entry. The male lead often doesn't do it for me. He seems too little involved with his surroundings and some of his decisions are not what I'd expect from a male hero, even controversial. Somehow he doesn't pop out, he just looks handsome, that's it. The characters stay superficial to where the story could build rapport with the characters and viewers are often lost, when the story cuts beginning threads of thoughts or character changes off or overtheatrically ridicules CAN'T TAKE THE CHARACTERS SERIOUSLY. Also, lots of characters are really dislikable to me for too long a period of time. It's not well balanced for me to really enjoy value Maybe only the kiss scenes in a fast compilation. The prospective dragging will likely keep me from trying to finish this More Was this review helpful to you?
